Walk into any health store or scroll your social feed, and you’ll see endless claims about supplements promising detox, energy, or better performance. But the truth? Not all supplements are created equal and depending on quality, timing, and your unique needs; some can do wonders while others fall completely flat.

We sat down with Nick Bodi, MS, FNP-C, IFMCP of The Institute of Natural Health, to rank some of the most talked about supplements, and the results might surprise you. His take wasn’t about hype it was about how these supplements actually perform in the body when used correctly.

Detox Supplements

Bodi gives these anywhere from a 1 out of 10 to a 10 out of 10. Why such a wide range? Because detoxing only works if you know what toxin you’re trying to clear. Too often, people take detox products blindly, not realizing that “detox” isn’t one-size-fits-all. Without testing and targeted support, you might just be spinning your wheels.

Greens Powders

They may look healthy, but most greens powders only earn a 1 out of 10. Many are contaminated with heavy metals or overly processed ingredients that offer little real benefit. They also tend to lack one key nutrient: fiber which is essential for true detoxification and gut health.

Colostrum

This one earned high marks: a 9 out of 10 when sourced and timed properly. It can be a game changer for gut healing, immune support, and certain autoimmune conditions. Still, it’s not for everyone, so knowing whether it’s right for you is key.

Electrolytes

These scored anywhere from a 1 to 10 depending on quality. Raw electrolytes from food sources are ideal, but certain packets or powders can be beneficial too. As with all supplements, the brand and formulation matter.

Creatine

Creatine gets a solid 9 out of 10 for its consistency and quality across brands. It’s one of the most well researched performance supplements, shown to improve muscle recovery, brain health, and overall energy.

Aminos

These topped the list with a perfect 10 out of 10 especially essential amino acid blends. They support protein and collagen building, muscle repair, and energy production. Just make sure you’re choosing essential amino acids, not just branched chain(BCAA) formulas.

Ketones

Finally, ketones scored an 8 out of 10. They’re not for everyone but can be incredibly effective for endurance, fasting, mental clarity, and metabolic support when used in the right context.

The takeaway? Supplements can be powerful tools, but only if you use the right ones for your unique body and goals. That’s why functional testing and personalized guidance are so important. A supplement that’s a “10 out of 10” for one person might be a “1” for another.
